Paymee: Profile of a Tunisian Payment Pioneer Under Pressure
Paymee helped Tunisian merchants accept card payments online and at delivery. A 2023 anti-money laundering freeze, later linked to a regulatory grey zone, put the company at risk.

Funds frozen in February 2023 after a suspicious activity report; in February 2024 the company said it faced imminent risk of closure. Website still online, but we found no public confirmation that the case was resolved. Founding year is reported as 2017 or 2018 depending on the source.
Paymee is a Tunisian payments company founded by Marwen Amamou; sources date its creation to 2017 or 2018. It began with a mobile app for paying merchants and sending money, then focused on businesses. Its payment gateway accepts Tunisian and international cards and La Poste's e-Dinar cards through plugins or an API, with payments processed via the platform of the Société Monétique Tunisie. It also offers Paylink payment links, fixed QR codes and Paymee On Delivery, where couriers generate a QR code so customers can pay by card at the door. In July 2022 Wamda reported a six-figure round led by P1 Ventures; the amount was not disclosed. In February 2023 a suspicious activity report to the CTAF, Tunisia's financial intelligence unit, led to a freeze of the company's funds. According to Paymee and press reports, a BCT inspection in October 2023 concluded that it acted as a payment facilitator rather than an unlicensed payment institution. In February 2024 the company said the case was still open, that more than 750 clients were affected and that it risked closing. We found no public announcement that the case has been resolved, so its current operating status is unclear.
