Mobile Payments in Tunisia: The Wallet Landscape in 2026
Tunisia's mobile wallets are multiplying, from bank apps and La Poste to fintechs and telecom operators. The usage numbers are rising quickly but remain small next to cards and cash.
Licensed payment institution behind the Swared agent network and Kashy wallet
Viamobile is a Tunisian company created in 2009 that received final approval from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) as a payment institution on 8 April 2021, one of the first in the country. With the licence it launched Swared, which combines a network of approved agents with a technology platform. At launch, Swared offered real-time cash deposits and withdrawals, person-to-person transfers, bill payments, phone top-ups, sports betting payments and microcredit repayments, starting with about 1,000 agents. The network has also served international remittances: when Taptap Send launched its Tunisia corridor in April 2022, recipients collected cash at around 300 Swared points. In March 2026 Tunisie Telecom launched the Kashy mobile wallet, which Ecofin Agency reported was developed with Viamobile as the licensed payment institution. Konnect Networks lists Viamobile as a client of its wallet infrastructure, according to Konnect's website. Viamobile does not publish user or transaction figures that we could find. Like other payment institutions, it is subject to BCT Circular 2026-10, which tightens governance, cybersecurity and partnership rules from late 2026.
