Early Tunisian virtual wallet for online payments and transfers
Most recent press coverage found dates from July 2020; we could not confirm whether its 2020 payment institution application was approved or whether the service still operates.
Sobflous is a Tunisian virtual wallet platform that has been in production since 2013, according to Managers, which described it in 2020 as the country's first fintech of its kind. It started with a phone top-up service and grew into a wallet that could be funded by Tunisian and international bank cards, e-Dinar and DigiCard cards, and bank, postal or voucher payments. Users could transfer balances free of charge by email or QR code, move money instantly to e-Dinar, DigiCard or bank accounts, pay bills online and pay partner online shops, including by QR code. Sobflous belongs to SF Technologies, a company holding the Startup Label and described as linked to Hamtel; Cap Bank was named as an investor, with no amount disclosed. In July 2020 the company reported about 180,000 registered users and released a new version of its mobile app. At the end of March 2020 it had applied to the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) for approval as a payment institution. We found no public confirmation that this licence was granted, and no press coverage of Sobflous after 2020, so its current status is listed as unclear.
