AI in Tunisian Banking: Real Uses, Rules and Gaps
Chatbots, remote identity checks and credit scoring are the first AI uses in Tunisian banks. There is no AI-specific rulebook yet, and that cuts both ways for founders.
Consulting and credit-management software for banks and microfinance institutions
Talys is a consulting and software group that works with financial institutions; its software is developed in Tunisia. Its main product is ICM (Intelligent Credit Management), a platform that digitises the credit lifecycle, from onboarding, online applications, scoring and AML/CFT screening to disbursement, monitoring, recovery and litigation, with a configurable rules engine that can handle Islamic finance products. Talys says it has worked with financial institutions for more than 18 years, in Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and in 2024 described itself as the technology partner of more than 200 financial institutions in over 20 countries; these figures are the company's own. In Tunisia it has become a key supplier to the microfinance sector. In June 2024 Microcred deployed its credit platform alongside Fern Software's Abacus system, and Enda Tamweel chose Talys to implement the MEGA HOPEX governance, risk and compliance suite. In June 2025 Islamic microfinance institution Zitouna Tamkeen went live on ICM. Besides software, Talys offers consulting on information-system strategy, enterprise architecture, data governance, process re-engineering and risk mapping. TALYS Group was also an investor in the October 2025 pre-seed round of the Tunisian fintech PAYDAY.
